File type examples: JPEG, PNG, PSD etc.
Raster files are images built by formations of pixels. "Resolution", which is measured by DPI (dots per inch) or PPI (pixels per inch) ultimately affect the quality of the image.
If you zoom in to a raster image, eventually you will see the individual pixels.
Vector Image
File type examples: SVG, EPS, AI, etc.
Vector files are based on lines, curves and ultimately a methematical equation. There are NO PIXELS in a vector file. Essentially you can scale this type of image up or down without impacting its quality.
